Start Consulting -- How to Walk the Talk was written to help CPAs be more aware of, and better manage the constant transition between, filling the role of Expert and that of Advisor/Facilitator. In a time when traditional services are being squeezed by what the client is willing to pay, what our professional standards dictate that we do, and what our litigious environment is increasingly challenging, consulting/advisory work is one silver lining on a cloudy horizon. Businesses everywhere are asking new questions; instead of "how profitable are we?," questions focus more on "where will our profits come from tomorrow?" While we have the knowledge to provide this assistance, this book centers on augmenting and/or refining the skills required to effectively deliver these future focused advisory services, from:
  • developing the skills and techniques used to deliver these services,
  • to being more capable of identifying client needs,
  • to motivating the client into seeing the value of getting you involved right now,
  • to marketing your firm,
  • to pricing and administering the work ... and much more.
This book was written so that every person with client management responsibilities would have a "back to the basics" primer of what it takes to actually become "the most trusted advisor" we pride ourselves in being.

Start Consulting -- How to Walk the Talk is published in the United States by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and in Canada by the Certified General Accountants. For more information, or to order this book, choose the AICPA (CPA2Biz) Online Store link below.

Videos

Being an Effective Communicator is Bill's first in a series of videos he is developing to support an organization's internal training programs. As you will be able to tell by watching it, "keeping it simple" is his programming approach. He also tries to involve YOU in his lectures by using both humor and by sharing stories about real situations.

This video was shot predominately at a keynote address he recently delivered on Leadership. This video is an excerpt from that presentation. It is also one of Bill's favorite topics because communications should be so simple ... yet it is so difficult. Our egos, our programmed behaviors, our perceptions -- get in the way. When you really get under the covers of this subject, when you consider the complexity of a communication, it is amazing we do it so well. This program was designed to support you in doing it a little better. This is also a fun topic because of the many stories Bill tells about his life and how he constantly falls prey to the many communication traps. Truly becoming an "Effective Communicator" is a life's work. But it is also amazing how a few tips and techniques can exponentially improve your ability to:

  • Assess the communication situation;
  • More favorably react and respond to the many communication signals you send and receive;
  • Avoid common pitfalls that can easily derail a conversation;
  • and most important, get your message across in the way you meant for it to be received.
Being an Effective Communicator is sold on both VHS Video Tape and on DVD. The price of this 45 minute internal use only program is $59. It is a great video to incorporate into one of your monthly staff or training meetings. If in the first 30 days you own this product, if you are not completely satisfied with it, Bill will reimburse your total price less shipping.
